Wine Tasting in Western Australia is a pleasant and easy going activity. It does not require planning or booking upfront - an unexpectancy is what visitors should look for! An unexpected friendliness, an unexpected warm atmosphere, an unexpected generosity and unexpected feeling of freedom and happiness...

Wine tasting in Western Australia is free of charge. And it is not because the wine makers want in return a purchase of the bottle of wine or because their estates are wealthy. Because it is tradition. It is tradition to welcome guests in cellars, to offer degustation, and then have vibrant talks after which you feel uplifted and motivated to start your own winery.

Wineries in Western Australia are charming small boutiques with a spacious tasting room and big open windows. Tables and chairs are usually outside of the cellars, allowing visitors to sit down, have a glass of wine and enjoy time at the vineyard. The definition "small boutique" here only means that it is run by one family, and very often, for generations. It means that the winery is not commercialized and their wines are rare to find in a Wine and Spirit Shop. Such wines are made with a personal attention and care of the owners and as a result, it truly tastes heavenly. Small boutique wines are not exported in big quantities. A few bottles of a small boutique wine can be found in hotels and restaurants around the world. One may ask why these wineries do not export bigger amounts if they are so successful? It is a good question to ask the sommelier (person who serves wine at degustation).

Prices for wine in these vineyards are reasonable with a bottom line of $15 Australian dollars.

Each boutique likes to experiment with methods and ways to harvest grapes. Intriguing stories about harvests from each year (it is the weather that makes wine, they say) comes together with the taste of wine from that year. And it definitely varies.

The Swan Valley does not have a tourist and non tourist time. It is not overcrowded. Each season offers different tasting experience with different outlooks of vineyards.

A gentle reminder here to drivers during wine tasting trip to be careful with degustation.
