The Resort

Bali Tropic Resort and Spa attracts by its aesthetic, traditional and woody architecture, but this outlook does not fully reflect on price, quality, comfort and opportunities guests can find here. The resort may have been a well - kept establishment before, but today the fading popularity can be seen through the worn facilities, lousy customer service and standards that do not meet 4 star criteria rating. At the same time, friendliness of the staff, quiet environment and cultural spirit make the resort amiable.
Territory at the Bali Tropic Resort is vast enough to walk and explore possibilities around. This resort is different than Caribbean "close - up style", "all - inclusive resorts". Guests are free to walk outside of the territory at any time and will not be stopped by a guard. Inside the resort guests can find such activities as beach volleyball, billiards, gym, garden chess, bamboo xylophone, othello, darts and table tennis.
Water sport activities are also available in the resort in a great variety: snorkeling with traditional boat, canoeing, catamaran, wind surfing and diving lessons (in a pool though). Since the tides of the ocean are very unpredictable and the water is often far away, we did not find water sports to be part of the exploration here, as well as we did not see anyone using them. As a result, we can't comment whether the described water activities are included into the vacation package or not.
The atmosphere at the Bali Tropic resort is different than the one found at the resorts on the Caribbean Islands like Mexico, Dominican Republic or Jamaica. We think this is a very important distinction between "all - inclusive resorts" in the Caribbean and Bali and this is what travelers need to understand before booking a vacation.
Bali Tropic Resort does not have an animation team, entertaining guests from mornings until midnight as well it does not have a night club and similar entertainment on its territory. Occasionally (based on a schedule) guests can witness traditional Balinese shows at evenings. Travelers are coming here to enjoy independent vacation time with a family or as a solo traveller.
Gastronomy at the resort is second - rate. Breakfast, which was included in our package, is a buffet style. It contained average items such as eggs, roasted potatoes, pancakes, waffles, juice, coffee, tea and local fruits. Lunch and dinner menus are overpriced, therefore we opted out to eat at them and went outside of the resort. Simple restaurants and shops are within walkable distance from the establishment.
Overall, the Bali Tropic Resort creates a two - sided opinion. Guests who like to be independent on their vacation and who are not gourmet, will find the place ambient and unpretentious. It certainly has an old world charm and atmosphere of Bali and you can either like it or not. Guests who will come with an expectation of a luxury feel will be disappointed.

The Rooms

The Bali Tropic Resort and Spa has several room options to choose from:

Option 1: Deluxe Room with a view to the gardens.
*Garden is only seen if your room is on the ground floor or facing outward.

Option 2: Deluxe Bungalow Room. This room is similar to the Deluxe Room, the only difference being the size. *Garden is only seen if your room is on the ground floor or facing outward.

Option 3: Royal Room with a view to a pond or garden. More spacious room than Deluxe Bungalow Room with a bigger terrace. The terrace has two chairs and a table, as well as a couch. The room is located on the ground floor.

Option 4: Suite Room. The most spacious room with a separate living room. All rooms in this option face the pool or the ocean.

All rooms have the bed option of either one king or two queen beds. We recommend to confirm your choice at the reception when checking in.

As we stayed in the deluxe room, I will provide the description of our experience.
Our deluxe room was traditionally decorated with Balinese wood ornaments. It was spacious and comfortable. The room contained one king bed, two chairs, a desk and mini refrigerator. The refrigerator was refreshed daily with two bottles of water. There were European sockets around the room including next to the bed, in the small lounge area, and in the bathroom (110V). The air conditioner in the room is placed next to the balcony door, with some distance to the major areas like the mini lounge area and bed. Since this is a tropical country, with a tropical climate, the humidity level in the room - higher that usual - was sensible.
The room was located on the second floor. Being the first one from the elevator we constantly heard conversations from other guests and the staff while they were waiting for the elevator. Our balcony was facing a room across and we could clearly see other guests in their room. There was a lack of privacy as well as an uncomfortable feeling during any time on the balcony.

The bathroom itself did not have a door. However, the toilet and shower did have their own separate doors. The general bathroom area had one sink vanity, shelves for putting guest's personal items, as well as a large mirror. A bath is also in the bathroom area with the option to open a window to the room. The size of the whole bathroom facility is comfortable for two people. Toiletries, bathrobe and slippers were also there.

Overall, our room was as shown on the resort's website. We had everything we needed for a satisfied stay. The room was cleaned regularly and yet the lack of privacy made it feel disturbed.

The Beach

Bali Tropic Resort beach is private. It means that you are not going to see locals laying down on the sand at the perimeter of the resort. Generally, locals do not sun bathe even on a public beach. What locals like to do is to fish and catch crabs. If you are on the beach at 6AM, around sunrise, you will likely see several fishing boats catching fish and lobsters. You will also see men walking along the beach and searching for crabs. They do not interfere with the beach atmosphere at the resort and by the time guests are out for a sun bath, they have finished for the day.

The beach itself is clean and widely spread around. For the majority of the day the tide is out, which makes swimming hard. We found that swimming is more pleasant and enjoyable approximately one kilometer along the beach from the resort. The ocean has a nicer blue color and the beach has a different variety of sand. Since guests can freely walk on walking paths that run alongside the whole beach, it takes twenty minutes to reach the more desired beach. Swimming outside of the resort is safe. But guests should be aware of the stronger current and keep an eye on how far they are from their clothes on the beach.

The atmosphere at the Bali Tropic resort beach is restful and calm with a number of sun lounge chairs always available at the guests' disposal.

Overall, the beach and the view on the volcano that occasionally can be seen on the other side of the ocean has the therapeutic effect we came for. Natural cleanliness, and the absence of any food stations in the beach area make it an ideal spot to meet the sunrise or sunset.

Meeting the Sunrise

Sunrises in Bali are spectacular. This is one of the experiences guests should have while here. Sunrise in Bali is a combination of stunning colors and the feeling of peace everyone watching it will feel. There is also the possibility to see a volcano, located on the opposite side of the ocean, very clearly, before it disappears in the day light.

We got up every morning before 6 A.M and walked to the beach to meet the sunrise. At this time the coastline had very few people and it was very quiet. The ocean also was still and unmovable. We saw the volcano very clearly. Its image has been imprinted in our memory of Bali. After the sun had awakened we walked along the coastline, proceeding to the breakfast area later.

What is around

Bali Tropic Resort is located between Hotel Club Med Bali and the Royal Santrian Luxury Beach Villas.
In the areas between hotels, locals offer a spa service and also sell local food and goods. Minor attention from the sellers allows the guests to wander peacefully in the area.

The Stay Experience
Bali Tropic Resort is a combination of appealing and disappointing factors. Its traditional architecture and the Balinese style and atmosphere, invite guests to become a part of the island's culture. On the other side, the worn facilities, average customer service and low standard of quality makes the hospitality at the resort neutral, leaving guests unfulfilled from their holiday time.

Bali Tropic Resort is for travelers who appreciate quietness, independence and simplicity. It is a good accommodation for people coming to explore Bali beyond the boundaries of the resort.

We recommend this resort for couples seeking quiet time, families with small kids, solo travelers, active travelers and travelers working online (reliable WIFI at the spacious lobby area).
