Today smoothies are an extremely popular healthy beverage among all groups of people, and there are many reasons why! We like smoothies for their pleasant taste, nutritional benefits and an unlimited variety of ingredients that this drink can be made from. Each of us can find in the store the "perfect blend" based on personal preferences or health and fitness goals at any time.
Many people, though, like to make smoothies at home. Either it is because some of us like to monitor the process or it is because we want to experiment with the taste, the good news is that the Internet provides enough recipes for any occasion.
What I have personally found, after researching recipes for smoothies online, is that many recipes are way too complicated. The advertised explanation behind such complications is that these smoothies will provide either an incredible taste or enrich us with a large amount of vitamins and minerals. But what more do we need other than a pleasant taste and a balanced amount of vitamins? My other observation showed, that some recipes concentrate more on the lightness of the drink, thus skipping ingredients that make the blend full and satisfying for a replacement of breakfast or even lunch. It all depends on what we are making it for, of course.
A recipe below, that I have created over the years, can serve any occasion, and it is quick and easy! It can replace breakfast as well as being a yummy snack between lunch and dinner. The main difference of this homemade smoothie is that it is made from ingredients that can be easily found at home and it nicely fulfills the appetite. Finally, it contains a balanced amount of nutrition to help the digestive system run smoothly as well as keep the maker in great shape.
Quick and Easy Smoothie for Any Occasion:
Yields: 2 Full Glasses
- 2 cups of apple juice*
- 3 tablespoons of cereal* *
- 3 strawberries or raspberries***
- half banana
- half avocado****
* Take a look how much sugar is in the juice - the less the better.
** Read cereal ingredients to make sure there are no artificial ingredients and processed sugar. Such cereal can easily be found in a regular store.
*** Amount of berries is determined based on personal preference.
**** Avocado is a perfect texture agent, which makes the smoothie very creamy.
Add all of the ingredients to a blender, cover with the lid, and whirl until smooth. Add more of any ingredient if needed, to reach the desired consistency and taste. You can also play with the taste by adding several drops of honey.
This recipe is especially good for people who are intolerant to lactose, as we successfully substituted whole milk with juice. Soy milk is also a good alternative if you don't have apple juice available. The reason I do not include coconut, cashew or almond milk is because these beverages are pricey and not a "must have."
Happy Blending to Everyone!
